Story behind creating Chyawanprash
Before we get into the benefits of chyawanprash let me tell you how this ayurvedic medicine came into existence.
The Chyawanprash was made for sage known as chyawan was very old and weak. He was doing meditation in his ashram when a young daughter of local king mistakenly damaged the eyes of sage with stick. When the king came to know about this incident he apologised to sage chyawan and as remorse he left her daughter in the ashram to look after the blind sage chyawan. But chyawan rishi was not happy because he left it was injustice for the young girl. Then one day the physician of god Ashiwin kumar came to his ashram for a visit. Sage chyavan told all story to them and requsted them to make some medicine for him. So the duo of Ashwini kumar then made a this prash ( jam) for him. After comsuming this prash and following all the rules for rasayana (rejuvenation) therapy, sage chyavan once agian become young and full of energy. There after he lived happily with the daughter of king .
As he was the first to consume this prash hence it was named after him as chyawanprash.
What is Chyawanprash made of
Chyawanprash is made up from almost 50 herbs that are blended in a special way. Here we are sharing the list of herbs with there name and also the benefits that used to make chyawanprash.
1. Vasa, Adulsa, Vasaka (Adhatoda Vasica) it is having antiulcer, bronchodilator, expectorant, anti-antiallergic, cholagogue ( stimulate the flow of bile from gall bladder to duodenum), cardio vascular and respiratory disorder
2.Bel or bilva (Aegel Marmelos) is having anti diarrhel ,gastroprotctive, anti ulcerative and radio protective properties.
3. Aguru/ Akil ( Aquilaria agallicha) is anti asthmatic, anti inflammatory, analagesic, carminative and antimicrobial.

How do i know about the qaulity of chyawanprash i am using
To check the qauality of chyawanprash there are few test which can be done at home
1.First one is that it should have a good aroma like of cinnamon, cardoman, when you open it
2.Secondly the taste of the chyawanprash should be sour sweet. It should be too sweet. The sourness should be always more then sweetness. Now days many manufacteres add more sugar than recommended in the clasical text to make it more tasty and palatable.
3.Third is the consistency the prash should be thick, to check the thickness take 10 gms of chyawanprash and press it with your finger, then you will lines of finger on the chyawanprash.
4.Fourth one is water test. Take half glass of water in transparent vessel and add one teaspoon of chyawanprash to it, if it is settle at the bottom of the vessel then it is of good quality. If it disintegrate then it not good.
Is it good to eat chyawanprash daily?
Yes, chyawanprash can be consumed on daily basis for few days to months. However when you take any supplement or medicine on regular basis then over the period of time the body becomes habitual to it and you don’t get the 100%benefit of that.
So it is advisable to use chyawanprash by keeping a gap of few months in between so that your body doesn’t get used to it.
You can eat chywanprash on daily basis for 3 to 4 months.
How to use Chyawanprash
- Chyawanprash: Take 1 to 2 teaspoon of chyawanprash with milk one to two times as required. If milk is not suitable for you , then you can use others such as water, honey, juice as a vehicle.
- The dosage may vary from person to person and also depends on the following factors
- Age : Children and old age people requires less dose whereas Adults need high dose.
- Your Body constitution : People with Vata and Kapha body type will easily tolerate chyawanprash. However Pitta body type will have some problems while taking this.
- Region you live : People living in cold climate will require 2 teaspoon while in hot region it will be 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon.
- Digestion power : People with weak digestion will not be tolerate high dose of chyawanprash.
- Time of consumption : This refers to the season like in winter season the dose of chyawanprash can be high where as in summers the dose in less
What is the best time to take chyawanprash ?
The best time to take Chyawanprash is to take if before breakfast in the morning. Milk should be consumed during the day for better results.
Is drinking Milk compulsory after eating chyawanprash ?
It is advisable to drink milk after eating chyawanprash because it helps to counter the hot potency of chyawanprash. Moreover milk is having as a jevniya (life-force) and rasayana(rejuvenative) properties which enhances the effects of chyawanprash.
However if milk is not suitable to you or you have been advised not to consume milk of any health reasons then won’t worry you can still take chyawanprash. You can take with water, honey or juices.
Can we take chyawanprash in summers ?
Yes, chyawanprash can be taken during summer season. However the dose of chyawanprash will depend on your body constitution and area your are living. Therefore one should take advise from Ayurvedic doctor for ascertaining the dose of Chyawanprash in summer.
In General 1/2 teaspoon Chyawanprash along with Pomegranate juice or Amla juice or with milk is advised in summers.
Does Chyawanprash have side effects ?
Although numerous works have been carried out on this formulation, no evident information on side effects has been available until now. If taken in prescribed dosage, Chyawanprash is considered to be safe.
A report suggested that Amla should not be consumed at bedtime to avert ill effects on teeth Chyawanprash is rich in Amla contents therefore, it is better to avoid it at bedtime.
Also if taken in excess it may lead to gas , bloating, heartburn and abdominal fullness.

1.Can Chyawanprash be used while taking homoepathic medicine ?
Yes, Chyawanprash can be taken along with homeopathic medicine and does not react with homeopathic medicine.
2.Can Chyawanprash be continued while taking supplements like multivitamin, omega 3, spirulina.
Yes .Generally this chyawanprash goes well with most dietary supplement. However if you are taking more than one product per day please consult your doctor for opinion.
3. With western/modern medicine
Seek your doctors advice if you are taking Chyawanprash along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicine. Some ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
When taking ayurvedic medicine or herb with modern medicine it is best to keep one hour gap in between both the medicine.

Yes People with diabetes can use chyawanprash. A study has found that there was no significant effect on Hb1Ac levels of diabetic people who were taking Chyawanprash. But always keep watch on your sugar levels. However do not stop your diabetes medicine once you start taking this medicine.
6.Are there any diet restriction( Pathya) while taking this product.
No .There are no such restriction while taking this product. However if you have been advised with any specific diet based on disease, you should continue to follow it.
