What is dronepushpi?

Dronpushpi, commonly called Gumma or Dhondhni, is a wild herb found across India, especially during the monsoon season. With small white flowers and a strong, slightly bitter taste, it has been traditionally used for both internal and external healing purposes. Its name in Sanskrit translates to “sacred vessel,” highlighting its esteemed place in Ayurvedic medicine.

  • Leaves: Narrow, lance-shaped to oblong‑elliptic, slightly toothed, with fine hairs—especially on the underside. 
  • Flowers: Characteristic small white tubular blooms arranged in dense, spherical whorls.

Health Benefits of dronpushpi

Treats Skin infections

Traditionally dronapushpi has been used as a Raktashodhaka (blood purifier), in treating various skin problems. Dronpushpi helps cleanse the blood and soothe skin irritations like boils, rashes, and insect bites. It has antibacterial and antioxidant effects that aid skin repair. Its antipruritic properties remove the itching sensation caused in condtitions like urticaria, eczema, scabies and psoriasis.

Respiratory problems

In Ayurveda, Dronpushpi is known for its Kaphahara (kapha-balancing) properties. It helps break down mucus and clears the respiratory tract. Modern studies show that it has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory actions, which support relief from colds and throat infections. It is also useful in

  • Bronchitis
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders
  • Allergic Rhinitis ( Runny nose)

Relieve fever & inflammation

Known as Jvaraghna in Ayurveda (fever-reducing), Dronpushpi helps lower mild fevers, especially those caused by infections or seasonal changes. It calms pitta and kapha imbalances, reducing body heat and inflammation.

How to use Dronpushpi

Dronpushpi can be consumed in various forms, including:

  • Fresh juice:  To make the juice you need  fresh leaves of dronspushpi add little water to it. Mix it in mixer and then filter it. 
  • Dosage : 10 to 15 ml two times a day.
  • Decoction:  10-20 ml two times a day.
  • Part Used :  Leaves, flowers, whole plant.

What are the side effects of Dronpushpi

Precautions

 

During breast feeding avoid consuming Dronpushpi 

Avoid consuming Dronpushpi during pregnancy due to lack of research on safety during pregnancy.

Always use Dronpushpi in recommended dosage  to avoid potential side effects such as nausea and bloating. It is better to ask Ayurveda doctor about dose and suitability for your body type.

If you have pre existing medical conditions or taking any medications, consult a doctor before using dronpushpi. This ensures that there are no harmful interactions or contraindications. 

Don’t use dronpushpi continuosly for long period of time . Take break to allow your body to respond appropriately. Also when we use any herb continuosly ,then the body becomes use to it and it don’t respond to it.

Store dronpushpi in cool and dark place to maintain its potency and prevent it from contamination. Proper storage helps in retaining its therapeutic value.

Home Remedies of Dronpusphi

Dronpushpi for fever

To make this remedy you will following ingredients:

  • Dronpushpi leaves – 10 to 15

  • Water – 1cups

  • Black pepper – 2 crushed

How to use:
First take dronspuspi leaves and water in mixer and extract juice from it. Now add crushed black pepper in the juice. Drink this juice two to three times daily.

It helps to relieve fever of all types including malaria and dengu.

For relieving inflammation and pain

For this you will ingredients:

  • Dronpushpi leaves – 10 to 15 

  • Neem leaves –  10 to 15

  • Plain water –  2 liters

How to use:
Take water in steamer and add both the leaves into water. Let the water boil now give hot fomentation on the affected part from the steam generated.

This hot fomentation will help reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

To relieve migraine

For this  you need following ingredients:

  • Dronpushpi leaves –  5 to 10 

How to use
Extract juice from dronspushpi leaves and put 2 to 3 drops of juice in both nostrils. Do this two times a day

This nasal administration of juice helps to relieve migraine pain and provide relief from discomfort.

1.Can this herb be used while taking homeopathic medicine ?

Yes. This herb does not react with homeopathic medicine.

2.Can this herb/medicine be continued while taking supplements like multivitamin, omega 3, spirulina ?

Yes .Generally this herb goes well with most dietary supplement. However if you are taking more than one product per day please consult your doctor for opinion.

3. With western/modern medicine

Seek your doctors advice if you are taking this product along with other western (allopathic/modern) medicine. Some ayurvedic herbs can interact with modern medicine.
