Ayurveda Solutions for Acidity problem

Acidity, also known as acid reflux or heartburn, occurs when the stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation in the chest or throat. Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of medicine, offers several natural remedies to manage acidity. Here are some Ayurvedic solutions for acidity:

  1. Dietary Modifications: According to Ayurveda, diet plays a crucial role in managing acidity.
  2. Avoid spicy, oily, fried, and acidic foods.
  3. Instead, consume foods that are cooling and soothing for the stomach, such as cooked vegetables, grains like rice and barley, and dairy products like milk and ghee.
  4. Herbal Remedies:
    • Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Amla is rich in vitamin C and has cooling properties that help reduce acidity. You can consume it fresh or in the form of juice.
    • Licorice (Yashtimadhu): Licorice root has anti-inflammatory properties and helps in soothing the stomach lining. It can be consumed as a tea or in powdered form.
    • Mint (Pudina): Mint leaves have a cooling effect on the stomach and can provide relief from acidity. You can chew on fresh mint leaves or drink mint tea.
    • Ginger (Adrak): Ginger has digestive properties and can help in reducing acidity. You can consume ginger tea or chew on raw ginger slices.
    • Lifestyle Changes:
  • Maintain a Healthy Weight: Excess weight can put pressure on the stomach and lead to acidity. Maintain a healthy weight through regular exercise and a balanced diet.
  • Eat Small, Frequent Meals: Instead of large meals, opt for smaller, more frequent meals to prevent overloading the stomach and reduce acidity.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to help neutralize stomach acid and prevent acidity.
  • Eat Mindfully: Chew your food thoroughly and eat in a calm, relaxed environment to aid digestion.
  • Avoid Cold Foods and Beverages: Cold foods and drinks can dampen the digestive fire (agni), leading to impaired digestion and acidity.
  • Include Cooling Foods: Consume foods with a sweet, bitter, and astringent taste, as they help in balancing Pitta dosha and reducing acidity. Examples include sweet fruits, leafy greens, and dairy products.
  • Herbal Teas: Drink herbal teas made from cooling herbs like coriander, fennel, and cumin to help soothe the stomach and reduce acidity.

 

  •   Ayurvedic Formulations:

    • Triphala: Triphala is a combination of three fruits – Amalaki, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki. It aids in digestion and helps in relieving acidity. You can consume Triphala powder mixed with warm water before bedtime.
    • Avipattikar Churna: This Ayurvedic formulation contains herbs like Amla, Haritaki, and Licorice, which help in balancing stomach acid levels and relieving acidity.

 

               Pranayama and Yoga:

Practicing pranayama (breathing exercises) and yoga asanas can help in reducinng  stress and improving                       digestion, thereby reducing acidity. Some beneficial yoga poses include  Pavanamuktasana (Wind-Relieving Pose) and Vajrasana (Thunderbolt Pose).

 

          Daily Routine (Dinacharya):
